Krista Donnelly Scholarship

Krista was one of the early and long standing NSDA Board members, acting as Treasurer until retiring from that position in 2013.   In her role as Treasurer, Krista made an incredible long term contribution to our association, as well as providing strategic guidance on matters well beyond her primary financial responsibilities. She laid the invaluable groundwork for many processes that still guide us today and was also a tireless and enthusiastic leader and champion in our fundraising efforts, especially the Walk, Rattle and Stroll event and online auction, even after retiring from the Board.

Krista was wholeheartedly devoted to her family; her daughters Taryn and Finley and her beloved husband Patrick. Her courage, wisdom and generosity of spirit during her final difficult journey were an inspiration to all those who knew and loved her. We are deeply grateful for the gifts and talents she shared with us.

We believe that Coburn MacLean former NSDA Chair and Krista's close friend said it best: "Krista danced in her death, just as she danced in her life - she leaned in, she looked it in the eye and made it a partner and teacher on her great journey." We trust that Krista would be very pleased to know that her name will carry on to support the professional development of NSDA doulas, a profession and an organization she so passionately supported. Krista Donnelly passed away in on October 5, 2017.

Purpose of the fund

The purpose of this bursary is to infuse doulas with a keen sense of responsibility to others and an awareness of the importance of diversity in our community. More specifically, this bursary aims to provide financial assistance to a doula-in-training or a trained doula who is an NSDA Member and who will use his/her newly acquired knowledge to benefit families in the community and perinatal health in general.
